No. You can guess as many times as you want at no cost. The only thing that drains the pot is revealing clues, at 150 points each.

Yes. The game accepts the surname on its own, so no need to remember exactly how a first name is spelled.

What does hard mode change?

It hides the two gimme clues, position and country, so you are working from draft info, teams, stats and awards. Scoring stays the same.
